With her stunning features, undeniable swag and overall girl crush appeal, Blackpink's Lalisa Manoban (@lalalalisa_m) is no stranger to the world of makeup. And now, she's been named the official global ambassador of M·A·C Cosmetics.
Starting this month, she will commence a long term partnership with the makeup label, and will be seen as the beauty behind M.A.C's iconic collections and innovative programmes.
“Always confident and never one to shy away from risks, she embodies our commitment to individuality and self-expression above all else," says Drew Elliott, Senior Vice President and Global Creative Director of M.A.C Cosmetics. "We can’t wait for her fans to see what she has in store for them through our collaboration.”
Below, we bring you a special Q&A with Lisa herself, where she talks about her new role, her makeup inspiration, her tips for a good selfie and more.
How does it feel to be the newest brand ambassador for M·A·C Cosmetics?
I'm a huge fan of M·A·C Cosmetics and I've been a loyal user for a long time, so it's really a dream come true to have the opportunity to serve as an ambassador for the brand.
M·A·C is truly at the forefront of trendsetting, which I'm reminded of every time I see an M·A·C campaign or the incredible looks their makeup artists create at fashion weeks around the world.
What was the first M.A.C product you tried?
The first M·A·C item I ever used was a lip product. I’m still a huge fan of M·A·C’s lip products, and I love playing around with the countless number of colours and textures to help perfect my look.
When did you realise your love for makeup? And what about it do you love?
Ever since I was a little girl, I've always been interested in makeup and fashion. But if I had to pinpoint the time I officially fell in love with makeup, I would say it was after my debut [in 2016]. Whenever we release a new album or I'm in a magazine shoot, I enjoy suggesting a makeup look that I've always wanted to try.
What does beauty mean to you, and is it an empowering tool?
To me, beauty is confidence. I think beauty comes from one’s inner confidence and attitude. Makeup and styling are the cherries on top of your already beautiful inner self!
Any beauty regimen you'd like to share?
I usually enjoy natural makeup. I like to start with a simple base, and finish with a bolder lip colour to add vibrance. When it comes to lip makeup, I particularly like an ombré lip that gradates from the centre of my lips!
Where do you get your makeup inspiration?
I constantly review various makeup looks for inspiration. When I’m on a shoot, I like suggesting makeup styles that I've been eager to try. I enjoy working together with the makeup artist to finalise my look to suit the mood I am trying to express in the shoot.
We know you like taking photos with your cameras. Can you share a few tips on how to take good photos of makeup looks?
Because of the texture of the film grains, the photos produced by film cameras are less sharp, unlike digital cameras. So I often draw my eyeliner a bit thicker and bolder than usual to make it look clearer in pictures.
You left home at a young age, and life in show business isn't always easy. What has been your motivation all these years?
I would say Blackpink members and my fans are my driving forces. Thank you for always being there for me through all the happiest and the saddest moments. I am truly grateful for all my members and fans.
What would you say to the girls and boys out there that aspire to be you one day?
Never give up on your dreams, no matter how painful and difficult your journey is. If you trust in yourself and fight for it until the end, your dreams WILL come true. You can do it!
If you were not an idol, what would you be?
When I was a little girl, I had thought that I could maybe become a model. However, photography seems to have caught my attention more lately. Had I not become a singer, I might have been a photographer!
