Drama, drama!: Law Roach Retiring
Developing an industry-leading red carpet style and often drawing inspiration from archival references, Law Roach certainly deserves to be described as an "image archive". He has many celebrity clients, such as Celine Dion, Emma Watson, Ariana Grande, Kerry Washington and Keke Palmer, and Zendaya, with the incredible looks he has created with his style consultancy. However, Law Roach, one of Hollywood's most famous stylists, dramatically impacted the fashion industry when he abruptly and unexpectedly announced his retirement from celebrity styling.
"You know what, I've done everything I wanted to do in this career. I've received all the awards, the accolades, I've changed people's lives…And I just feel like I've had enough." Law Roach argued in a series of recent interviews.
What happened?
After Law Roach's last memorable work was Hunter Schahfer's artistic appearance on the Vanity Fair red carpet, and in the days that followed, many rumours began to circulate when Law Roach announced his sudden retirement decision on his official Instagram account. The most striking gossip about his announcement is the tension in the Louis Vuitton show during the recent Paris Fashion Week. As we know in the viral video about the event, the Zendaya was among the first row of viewers, while the place shown for Law Roach to sit was in the second row. While it is a fact that we can't deny that Law Roach is the genius behind many of Zendaya's iconic looks, it is understandable that he saw this treatment as disrespectfulness. But, of course, this suggested possibility isn't likely the reason behind the successful stylist's retirement. On the other hand, although Law Roach expressed his dissatisfaction with this unpleasant event, his justification for this sudden retirement decision was "politics, the lies and false narratives", pointing to the ongoing problems of the fashion industry, especially in the issues of racism and political nature.
"I'm not saying I'm retiring from fashion. I love fashion. I love businesses, and I love being creative. What I'm retiring from is the celebrity styling part of it: the being in service and at service of other people," he stated in an interview.
Although it is still unclear whether Law Roach has an official retirement announcement, support continues to pour in on the famous stylist's social media account.
