Considering the harmful effects of ultraviolet rays, extreme exposure to the sun can damage the skin barrier and may cause complaints such as spots, wrinkling and even premature ageing on the skin. To decrease these problems to a minimum and achieve the healthiest state of your skin, you can use sunscreen not just during the summer months or when you will only be exposed to sunlight but every season of the year.

Use high-protection products

Choosing high-factor sunscreens will protect your skin from the effects of harmful rays such as UVA and UVB. Of course, you can use products with a factor of at least 30 so that the product you use to protect from the sun is not insufficient, and products with a maximum factor of 80 so as not to overdo it.

Tip: Although it is comforting to know that the moisturizers or foundations we use daily have SPF content, these 2-in-1 products may not be enough for sun protection. For this reason, we recommend including sunscreen in your daily care routine.

Use the right amount of product

When using sunscreen, it can be crucial to know the correct measure to be applied against problems such as the product causing excessive oiliness on your skin or the amount of product you use being insufficient to protect your skin. Applying a teaspoon of sunscreen to your face and neck will be more than enough.

Tip: It is also worth remembering that no matter how strong the content of the product we use, its protective effect weakens as the minutes pass. You can renew your sunscreen every 2-3 hours, especially on hot summer days, with sweating or contact with water on a day at sea.

Consider your skin type & don't forget your body

Knowing your skin type is very important in choosing the most suitable sunscreen. Since sunscreens are divided into minerals and chemicals in terms of their content, knowing your skin type will make it easier to find the right product. For example, some sensitive skin may react to sunscreens that provide chemical protection, while mineral products may cause problems such as leaving a white mark on some skin. You can also choose products with moisturizing or water-resistant properties according to your skin's needs. In addition to this sunscreen for your face, remember to use sunscreen for your body as well.

Tip: While the neck, arms and legs are the most common areas to apply sunscreen, remember to protect the tops of your hands, eyelids and lips from the sun too!

Check the expiry date

Unfortunately, the protective properties of last summer's products may not be valid. Throw away your old or expired sunscreens to ensure your skin is adequately protected from harmful sun rays.

Consider the activation period

Applying your protective product about 20-30 minutes before going out in the sun will give the protectants time to activate.

Tip: Ensure your skin has absorbed the sunscreen well before applying makeup.

A good cleansing at the end of the day

Sunscreens are more like makeup than moisturizing cream. Therefore, to prevent sunscreen from clogging your pores at the end of the day, continue your skin cleansing routine even when you are not wearing makeup.
