Suddenly everyone wants to be ballerinas – well not quite: they want what they look like. Tight bodysuits pulled over tights, tutus, leggings, leg warmers, ballet flats and pastel tones define the aesthetic called balletcore . This year the trend has taken our streets and our Instagram feeds by storm, with all designers already featuring ballet-inspired elements in their collections in 2022.

Where does ballet core come from?

As a further development of the athlesure trend, the look is another way to integrate sporty functional clothing into everyday life. It’s nothing new that outfits are taken from or inspired by sports, but what is new is that Balletcore has ushered in a new era. We are moving away from streetwear, dad sneakers and oversized towards femininity, flats and tight clothing. Yoga pants and Air Force are being replaced by tutus and ballerinas. It is the graceful and feminine touch that meets comfort and inspires and captivates fashion-savvy people all over the world.

Tulle, ruffles and lace

Tulle was already a staple piece in the 2000s and now, 20 years later, such skirts are celebrating their comeback – just a little different than back then. Combined with boots and a leather jacket, the feminine look can be broken up and the perfect balance can be found. It then forms the perfect mix of two completely different aesthetics, while at the same time you can make the outfit look even more feminine and graceful with matching ballerina flats.

In addition, given the low temperatures, tutus, ruffles and lace are also good for layering. Even with a chunky knit sweater and tights or as an accent peeking out from under a t-shirt, a small change can go a long way.

Boleros and wrap cardigans

Boleros and wrap cardigans are just as warm and feminine. With them you can also wear your cute tank tops in autumn or layer several tops on top of each other. The infamous onion look is not only practical, but also part of a ballerina’s typical outfit.

Cuffs, high socks and tights

Taken straight from the ballerinas’ wardrobe, leg warmers, high socks and tights can add a feminine touch to any look and form a bridge between shoes and bottoms. The entire outfit can create a much more unified image. They are also the perfect accessory for autumn because you can wear your short skirts and shorts without getting cold.

Grind

Bows can make a big difference as a small detail and can be added to a wide variety of outfits. Whether in clothing, shoes or hair – such details may not be noticeable at first glance, but they make a huge difference. They immediately make everything look more playful and feminine and can be the perfect balance to a casual outfit.

Ballerina flats

A few years ago, flat shoes were still very controversial, but with a change in the shoe world they have become more and more popular: ballet flats are one of the It shoes of 2023. The flat sole has something light, playful and elegant at the same time. They are often combined with high socks or cuffs to live up to the ballerina look, but they also look good on their own without socks. Depending on what you’re going for, one might be better than the other: socks and cuffs look more playful, while ballet flats without socks look more grown-up and elegant. In addition, the choice of shoes themselves is crucial: as Mason Margiala Tabis, with ribbons, like the MiuMiu ballerinas, or without and very minimalistic – the different designs determine the overall impression.
