Identify Your Skin Undertones: 4 Test To Determine

You may be familiar with the concept of "skin undertone," but can you identify the predominant colour of your skin? Being aware of your skin's undertone makes a massive difference in determining both the colours of your makeup and the colours of your clothes that will suit you best.

What are the types of undertones, and what is they mean?

There are three types of undertones which are warm, cold and neutral. Since the pigment under the skin is pink in people with cold skin undertones, blue and purple tones suit them very well. Therefore, blue-based reds, cool pink shades, dark burgundy and pastel colours will make them look perfect whether they wear makeup or clothing. People with warm skin undertones have yellow pigment under the skin, so orange, orange-tinged red, green tones and vibrant, warm colours best suit this type of person. And lastly, since people with neutral skin tones have both green and blue tones in their veins, it means that any colour will suit them easily.

How can I determine which one I am?

You can use one of the four tests to find your skin undertones and try all of them to be sure.

Vein test: In the daylight, turn over your forearm and try to define the colour of your veins. If they look greenish, it means they are probably run warm. On the other hand, if your veins look closer to blue, your skin tone might be closer to cool.

Jewellery test: Have you ever realised that you often prefer gold jewellery to silver jewellery or vice versa? If you like gold over silver and think you look much better that way, then it is a high chance that your skin undertones are warm. On the other hand, if you believe silver suits you best, your skin undertones are closer to cool undertones.

White Cloth Test: As easy as much as the other tests, grab a white cloth and put that next to your bare face. If your skin has a warm undertone it will appear yellowish and if you have a cool undertone it will appear bluish or pinkish.

The White vs Cream Test: If you cannot decide your skin undertone even after all those tests, then take one white and other off-white clothing while not wearing any makeup. You must tell which one adapts to your skin tone best. If you are better with pure white, your undertones probably are warm, but if it is cream, you have cool undertones.

And, here is the tricky part. If you get inferences so close that you can't make a definitive decision due to all these tests, you're lucky because it means you're neutral and will look good in almost any colour.
