The International Debut of Alexander Malakhov in Shanghai
Halcyon Gallery Hosts 'Poetics of Form' Exhibition Supported by Gallery Vysota
In Shanghai, with the support of Gallery Vysota, the first international exhibition of Russian artist Alexander Malakhov, titled 'Poetics of Form,' has opened.
The project is presented at the Halcyon Gallery, established in 1982, which showcases works by renowned artists such as Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Bob Dylan, Dominic Harris, Lorenzo Quinn, and others.
Professor Zhang Xi, President of Halcyon Gallery and the Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art MAM Shanghai, introduced two projects in July — one featuring the works of David Hockney and the other showcasing Alexander Malakhov. The latter was co-curated by Yury Sinozatsky and Evgeniy Terehin.
Alexander Malakhov primarily uses wood as his medium, skillfully employing simple lines, color patches, and planes to explore concepts of scale, structure, and volume.
This choice of medium draws parallels between the two cultures, referencing the philosophical relationship with nature in China.
The exhibition runs until August 3 and is open for visits at Halcyon Gallery, Shanghai. In Russia, Alexander Malakhov's works are exclusively represented by Gallery Vysota, founded by Valentina Kuzina.
The gallery actively promotes the concept of high contemporary art by introducing new names in Russia and China.
